Accomodation Australia: Lack of rooms during Games expected

Although a shortage of rooms is likely cheap rooms are still available

HOTELIERS say an expected accommodation squeeze is yet to hit Melbourne during the Commonwealth Games as rooms of less than $100 a night are still available.

Hotel, Motel and Accommodation Association state chair Carol Douglas urged potential visitors to embrace the Games and take advantage of the available rooms. There would be no shortage of attractions during the Games, she said, adding that there would be free admission to museums, gardens and cultural venues.

"Melbourne's airport and public transport system will keep visitors moving, and additional capacity will ensure visitors to the Games get to the events," she said.
