Alice Springs

Alice Springs is a modern town in the middle of the northern outback. It has gone from a simply telegraph station on the Overland Telegraph Line (OTL) to the major supply centre for the region. There is a distant about 1500 kilometres from all other large cities. The spring  “Alice Springs" gave this city the name. Alice Springs received the rail connection (The Ghan) in 1929 and then the number of the inhabitants multiplied. Alice Springs has an airport and is the starting point for popular trips in central Australia: to the "Ayers Rock", to "The Olgas" and to the "Kings Canyon". In addition, absolutely worth seeing are the "Alice Springs Desert Park", the "Frontier Camel Farm" and the "Alice Springs Reptile Park", which has some of the venomous snakes in the world, along with a collection of cute and cuddly creatures like thorny devils and various lizards to hand-feed. There are six Hostels for staying overnight. The "Pioneer YHA Hostel", "Toddy's Resort" and "Annie's Place" are recommended. The costs per night and dorm are between A$ 14-22.
