Around Darwin

Mandorah
Mandorah accommodates one of the most popular beaches in the area around Darwin and is most simply with the ferry of port in Darwin out to reach (within 20 minutes). The ferry puts about 10 times on the day and the price for and return trip lies with A$ 16 down dollar.

Tiwi Island
The two large and flat islands Bathurst & Melville are the Tiwi Island, about 80 km north of Darwin and they are areas of the Aboriginal People. Melville Island is the second largest island of Australia after Tasmanian. Apart from traditions of arts and crafts visitors can become acquainted with also the highly developed carving art and interesting screen printing techniques of the Aboriginal People. The mission station "Nguiu" on Bathurst Island is the most important settlement of the Tiwi Island. You need a permit to visit and the only realistic option is to take a tour, one day or overnight. There is an Airport on the islands, but there is no public transport.

Batchelor
Batchelor is about 100 km south of Darwin and starting point for the attendance of the “Litchfield National Park”. It is designated after Frederick Henry Litchfield, which investigated this region. The "magnetic termite mounds" are concisely for this area. The clever little termites build there narrow mounds in a narrow north-south orientation to catch the heat of the morning and afternoon sun. There are four absolutely worth seeing idyllic falls in the park, the “Florence Falls”, the “Tolmer Falls”, the “Wangi Falls” and the “Tjayera (Sandy Creek) Falls”. The small town Batchelor itself doesn’t have much to offer, just a uranium and copper mine.

Pine Creek
Pine Creek is 248 km south of Darwin. This small place was the scene for gold rush in the end of 19. Century and this small place transformed into a flowering city. The gold territory ascended to the most important place of discovery in the north of Australia. The surface of gold was soon diminished and deep-seated mineral resources were opened to keep the mines running. Since workers were scarce at that time, many hackneys from Singapore and Malaysia were enlisted with the support of the government at that time. Chinese workers from Hong Kong followed later. That’s why about 2.000 Chinese lived in Pine Creek in the middle of 1880. In addition, Pine Creek is said to have the largest variety of bird species in the Northern Territory.
