UNWIRED Australia has commenced to work on a wireless roadband network in Melbourne today, which will provide Melbournians with a fast, flexible and portable broadband service.
Unwired already operates a wireless broadband network in Sydney which covers more than 3.5 million people across the greater Sydney metropolitan area. After launching its Sydney service in August 2005, Unwired announced 36,600 customers by the end of September 2005. Unwired customers have access to the wireless broadband network via a desktop modem and wireless card.
As Australia´s second largest city Melbourne was the obvious choice for the company, said Unwired chief executive David Spence. "Our research shows there s significant pent up demand for our service in Melbourne," Mr Spence explained. "Not only from consumers wanting a fast, flexible and portable broadband service but also businesses who want the ability to roam between Sydney and Melbourne."
