National Code Update:
The Australian government has reviewed the National Code that
accompanies the Educational Services for Overseas Students
(ESOS) Act 2000.
The revised National Code becomes law from 1 July 2007,
and as a result there are several changes to some policies and
procedures at ACU National. Of note are the items below:
Under 18 Policy
The University will not take responsibility for the welfare of students who are under 18 years of age from 1 July 2007.
This means that the University will not enrol students who are
under 18 years of age unless a parent or suitable nominated
relative has been approved by the Department of Immigration
and Citizenship (DIAC) to take responsibility for their welfare.
Online Studies
International students may take up to 25% of their total course
load by online / distance education.
They must however undertake at least one face-to-face subject in
each compulsory session. At ACU National this means
Semester One and Semester Two each year.
Course Duration
International students must complete their course within the
minimum duration specified on their Confirmation of Enrolment
(CoE).
This means that students will not be permitted to extend their CoE
beyond the minimum duration of their course, unless there is
documented evidence of:
Compassionate or compelling circumstances;
A University intervention
strategy; or Approval for deferment or
suspension of studies.
Transition arrangements will be made for students who commenced their course prior to July 2007.
