Hey
I'm a 26 year old South African male. I'm trying to get into Australia to work full time in Sydney for perhaps a few years and maybe get permanent residency but that is not the focus at the moment.
I qualify for both Skilled Workers Visa (permanent residency), but this takes between 13-15 months to process and is very costly and the sponsored work visa, but am struggling to find employment while I am in South Africa. In order to get the sponsored workers visa, I need to have an offer of employment first and that has become my headache.
My question is, Is it better to keep attempting to find work while still in South Africa or is it an option to fly out to Sydney and stay with friends on a holiday visa and apply for work solidly for a couple of months organise the offer of employment and then leave the country and come back immediately with the work visa? Is it better for me to arrive in Aus and be able to have interviews and be there for hands on job searching or to stay in South Africa.
I have been waiting to travel for ages and really want to try Australia, meet up with old friends and get this going, but dont want to buy a ticket, fly all the way to Syd to find that no-one is interested.
Thanks
