Hi all,
I spent a year in Australia in 1999 on a working holiday visa, where I met my partner (English).
We have wanted to go back ever since. My partner did overstay his holiday visa by 10 months, but was told it would not be a problem for getting other visas, as long as he is honest. So that part hasn't got me worried too much. he doesn't have a job which would be on the skilled list, or that could be argued was in short supply in regional Australia.
I have not been able to find out if my trade qualifications are good enough for a skilled visa. I am working on the assumption that they arn't. Even if they are I would only get 40 points, so I don't think enough for me to get a skilled visa, unless it was regional.
I have someone at a uni in Sydney who is sounding very promising sponcering wise, which would be great, but without the points, it looks like it would have to be a tempory visa. This is fine in the short term, but I would sell my house before going, give up a job which pays a fair bit more in the UK than Oz, fly my dog over etc, I want to be fairly sure we can stay, buy a house etc.
My partner has a cousin in Adeliade who would love to be close to, and I just really like it around there, but we are willing to go anywhere to get in.
From what I can make out, my options are:
1, get sponsered on a tempory visa for Sydney, but wouldn't be able to get permenant residency while working there, even if I loved the job.
2, Apply for a job advertised in Adelaide while on tempory visa in Sydney and get Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 119/857) visa. But, this would be hoping that a job came up. There is one at the moment, which I will apply for.
3, Apply for the job in Adelaide, hope they would sponser me on temp visa until they decided they like me and sponser on the regional migration scheme.
or 4, really, really hope they recognise my qualifications and apply for regional skilled visa (by far the best looking way).
Anwyay, if anyone has any experiance of doing these that would be great. Most of the forums I have seen have been about skilled migration and don't mention sponsered at all.
One last bit, does anyone know if you can apply for a perminent residency visa while on an education temp visa? I couldn't quite make it out from the web site.
Thanks for any help.
