A 78-year-old woman has been bitten twice by a snake while sitting unsuspecting in her loungeroom at Werribee in Melbourne's south-west.
The woman sat on a couch in her loungeroom when she was bitten about 9.45am (AEDT) today, the Metropolitan Ambulance Service said. "She was sitting on her lounge in the loungeroom and received two bites to her left arm," spokesman James Howe said.
The snake was still under the lounge when paramedics arrived but did not attack them. While the woman was taken to Werribee Hospital in a stable condition, a professional snake catcher was called to remove the reptile. The species was unknown but the snake was described as brown in colour.
