Opening a Bank Account

• Go to the bank (Westpac, ANZ Bank,Suncorp etc.) and ask to set up a bank account for students
• You will need to show your passport and a second document with your photo on it (like driver's licence) and your student enrolment letter
• You will be registered and will receive a bank card by mail.  Your account details will be provided to you and you can deposit money and can withdraw money from the counter until you received your bank card
• There is in general no fee.

Getting a Tax File Number

• Go to the nearest Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and collect the application for TFN at the counter.  You can print it from this link as well.

• Complete the two pages and submit it at the ATO.  You will receive a temporary TFN until the application has been processed.

Getting Work

• Easiest is to have a look at the restaurants, cafes and bars for vacancies and apply within.  You may need to provide references.
• You may check the black boards of the universities for announcements
• You may apply via the online providers (free of charge)

• You may check the fruitpicking farms.  However they are not located in Sydney.  One of the closest is in Cessnock for Grape picking.
